Kadlekalu Usuli Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Kadlekalu (Black Chickpeas): 500 grams, soaked overnight and cooked
  • Grated Coconut: 1 tablespoon
  • Green Chillies: 6, slit
  • Mustard Seeds: 1 teaspoon
  • Urad Dal: 1 teaspoon
  • Curry Leaves: A few sprigs
  • Lemon Juice: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: To taste
  • Oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Hing (Asafoetida): A pinch
  • Turmeric Powder: A pinch

Instructions:

  1. Cook Kadlekalu: Soak the black chickpeas overnight and pressure cook them until soft.

  2. Prepare Seasoning: Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, and allow them to splutter. Add urad dal and sauté until golden brown. Then add hing, curry leaves, and green chillies. Sauté for a few seconds.

  3. Combine Ingredients: Add the cooked kadlekalu to the pan, followed by turmeric powder and salt. Stir well to combine.

  4. Add Coconut: Stir in the grated coconut and cook for a few more minutes.

  5. Finish: Turn off the heat and add lemon juice. Mix well and garnish with fresh curry leaves if desired.

  6. Serve: Serve hot as a side dish with rice or as a snack.
