Onion Bhaji

Ingredients:

  • 2 large Onions, finely sliced
  • 1 cup Gram Flour (Chickpea Flour/Besan)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • A pinch of Hing (Asafoetida)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water (as needed to make the batter)
  • Oil (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Batter:

    • In a large bowl, combine the gram flour, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, hing, and salt.
    • Gradually add water to the mixture, whisking continuously to form a smooth, thick batter.
  2. Add the Onions:

    • Add the finely sliced onions to the batter.
    • Mix well to ensure the onions are thoroughly coated with the batter.
  3. Fry the Bhajis:

    • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat.
    • Once the oil is hot, carefully drop spoonfuls of the onion-batter mixture into the oil.
    • Fry the bhajis in batches until they are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.
    • Remove the bhajis with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  4. Serve:

    • Serve hot with chutney or dipping sauce of your choice.
