Sambar Powder

 


🛒 Ingredients:

  • Coriander seeds

  • Dry red chillies

  • Chana dal

  • Urad dal

  • Fenugreek seeds

  • Cumin seeds

  • Curry leaves

  • A pinch of asafoetida

 Method:

  1. Dry roast coriander seeds until aromatic.

  2. Roast chana dal, urad dal and fenugreek seeds separately until golden.

  3. Roast cumin seeds lightly.

  4. Fry dry red chillies with a few drops of oil.

  5. Roast curry leaves until crisp.

  6. Allow all ingredients to cool completely.

  7. Add asafoetida and grind into a fine powder.

  8. Store in an airtight container.

💛 A Note from Tradition:

Homemade sambar powder was often prepared in bulk and stored for daily cooking — giving every batch of sambar its signature flavour.
