Vangi Bath Powder

 


The flavour backbone of Karnataka’s famous brinjal rice.

🛒 Ingredients:

  • Coriander seeds

  • Dry red chillies

  • Chana dal

  • Urad dal

  • Cinnamon

  • Cloves

  • Fenugreek seeds

  • Curry leaves

  • Poppy seeds

  • Asafoetida

 Method:

  1. Dry roast coriander seeds until aromatic.

  2. Roast chana dal and urad dal until golden.

  3. Lightly roast cinnamon, cloves and fenugreek seeds.

  4. Fry dry red chillies and curry leaves with a few drops of oil.

  5. Roast poppy seeds separately.

  6. Allow everything to cool.

  7. Add asafoetida and grind into a fine powder.

 A Note from Tradition:

Vangi bath powder was prepared in advance for festive meals where brinjal rice was served alongside raita and papad.
